Surprise package Sonny keeps rolling

Glenlea Sonny must really be this year’s surprise package. Indeed his win today was his 12th this season having already claimed a Duffer and then the Cup in Thurles on his last outing. Darren Smith’s son of Bexhill Eoin and Lowesgreen Nelly got the better of Condo in the deciding course after he got the better of an unsighted King Rooney in the semi-final.

Another dog claiming their second Cup of the season was Minorcas Flyer who got the better of Cashel Cup winner Smokey Symbol to take the silverware and Champion Bitch Stake points. The Pat Harty owned bitch won the Cup in Regional having claimed her Trial Stake last season in Carlow. Another strong performance should see her safely into the Powerstown showpiece.

Go Conquer, owned by the same Coalition Syndicate that owns Mr Big, was the dog Trial Stake winner at the Tipperary venue. Indeed Mr Big claimed the Cup here last season so it’s a unique double for the syndicate that includes Junior Minister Tom Hayes. Go Conquer a son of Murtys Blaze and Ougham Miss got the better of Bridies Eoin in the final buckle.

The Oaks Trial Stake was won by the choicely bred Thats My Ruby, a daughter of Bexhill Eoin and Gadget Girl. Both Thats My Ruby and Minorcas Flyer are trained by John Kiely. She got the better of Fuerty Wizard in the final.
