Front Runners

Irish Cup finalist, Intacta Banba, didn’t make headlines last year until February but he was certainly one of the better dogs in last year’s Derby class. A Trial Stake winner in Limerick City last season he was the fourth fastest dog in the Derby opening round, behind only Newinn Wonder, Kyle Leigh and Thomas The Tank, before being nabbed in a just up in the second round. He bounced back from that disappointment to reach the final of the Irish Cup a couple of weeks later and really bring himself to the consciousness of the coursing public. A runner in this stake last year as a pup he reached the semi-final and I’d certainly expect him if fit to reach at least that point this year.

In the bottom half of the draw it’s hard too see any dog other than Bridies Dashing troubling him, the son of Central City and Barrow Princess has reached a semi-final and final on his last two outings.

In the top half King Rooney had appeared to be getting his season together again before running unsighted in Knockgraffon when a fairly strong favourite to win the stake outright. He’d had similar moments before finally winning his Trial Stake here last season and if he can recover some consistency he’s more than capable of winning this  stake.

Of the others Master Jackpot, a semi finalist in his last three outings, (two this season) would certainly be worth considering. His first round opponent is also of interest. Mister Moonbeam is a beautifully bred second year dog who never really competed last season. That he was given more than half a dozen chances to win his Derby ticket last season might suggest that he was showing something at home and a reappearance here might suggest he could be in contention.

Quick overview

There’s plenty riding on this All Age Bitch Stake in North Kilkenny with plenty of ladies here desperately in need of the points for the Champion Bitch Stake. Minorcas Flyer is one of the front runners for qualification and 2 points should be enough to see her safely into the Clonmel showpiece. Unfortunately for the ladies chasing the points they all seem to be in the same half of the draw with Crafty Diviso and Skellig Lola both possible opponents for her just to reach the final.
