Irish Cup winner Carricktobin Lad has been installed as the 2-1 favourite for the Cup here as he’s set to make his first appearance of the season having been withdrawn before taking his place in the Cup at the Johnstown and Urlingford meeting. Carricktobin was a revelation last season winning the Urbs Intacta and then going on to claim the Irish Cup at the end of the season. He’ll be well fancied to get the better of Seaside Chaser.

Wyken Power is another in the bottom half with a real chance. Having won the Cup in Gorey, he reached the semi-final at Enniscorthy only to lose out to Vacume Wizard. He returns to Enniscorthy for this meeting with every chance. Having won this Trial Stake last season and gone on to win the Keen Laddie in Clonmel, he could well meet Carricktobin in the semi final.

In the top half of the draw Belfast Boy has been fairly consistent over the last year or so. Having reached the Trial Stake final in Roscommon last season, he followed that up with another appearance in the final in the Tubbercurry Trial Stake. He reached the semi final of the Cup in New Ross before finally breaking his duck in Trim earlier this season. He hasn’t appeared since but could well be a very real contender here.

Jesslikethat is another in this quarter and he’s been consistent this season without ever collecting silverware. He reached the final of the Cup in Crohane earlier in the season before losing out in the semi-finals in Knockgraffon and Dungarvan. He’ll have his work cut out for him though against Master Jackpot in the first round here.

Ballinbola Road, has already won a Cup in New Ross at the beginning of the season but he hasn’t quite hit those sights since. It isn’t inconceivable though that he could produce a big performance here. Shilling Alonso if on his form from last season could well be a real challenger. He’s only had the one appearance this season back in October so it’s difficult to say how things will go.
