Needham Danger claimed the 2013 Corn na Feile in Abbeyfeale for Brendan Matthews beating Call Her Dresden in the final. However it wasn’t all good news for the Newry kennel as Skellig Way beat Mr Blonde in the All Age final and twice runner up Turning Pace claimed the Oaks Trial Stake from Needham Marie.
The Carlow Trial Stake winner Danger, proved too good for Call Her Dresden in the final having accounted for her litter brother Call Him Bale in the final. He’ll certainly move close to the head of the betting for February’s classic.
In the All Age Cup, Skellig Way continued his perfect season to date as he got the better of Mr Blonde in the final. Way rounded off what has been a fantastic year for the O’Driscoll’s claiming a remarkable 11th All Age Cup so far this season and a third of the Christmas period with Skellig Tivoli and Skellig Sunrise also obliging. Both Mr Blonde and Skellig Way could renew acquaintances in Clonmel as both are avoiding injury likely to line up in the Champion Stakes.
The Derby Trial Stake was claimed by High Garden for the Off Side Syndicate. The son of Matt Hyland and Socialite had five previous outings this season but came good in Limerick today to claim his place in Clonmel in just over a months time.
The Oaks Trial Stake saw a deserved victory for Turning Pace, a lady who had done just about all she could this season without winning a Trial Stake. A semi-final appearance in Ballyheigue was followed by followed by final defeats in Lixnaw and Glanworth. She’s now won a total of 18 courses this season and more than deserves her place in the Powerstown. The daughter of March Is On and Big Maggie got the better of Needham Marie in the final.
