The Derby Trial Stake was claimed by Vale View Flyer, a son of Murtys Blaze and Blades of Glory, who beat off the challenge of Cooga Darlan in the final. For Darlan it was his second Trial Stake final defeat having lost out to Coshair Slane previously. Vale View was the Reserve Trial Stake winner in Doon on his last outing and had had impressed in earlier outings. He’s a late June pup and his improvement over the course of the season shouldn’t surprise.
Fireheight Una claimed the Oaks Trial Stake getting the better of Shanballa Dawn in the final. The daughter of Adios Alonso and Skibabbey Lady and owned by Brendan Maunsell had previously been beaten in the final of the Trial Stake in Rathkeale. She had gotten the better of recent Trial Stake winner Kilkeale Queen in the semi-final there so there was some form in the book. Her final opponent’s best previous effort had been a second round in North Kilkenny.
Cuine Boy claimed his second All Age Cup of the season and his fourth in total as he claimed the Russell All Age Cup today in Galbally. Having won his Trial Stake here two years ago, Cuine Boy has already won this season at Ennis-Clarecastle and could well be in line for a return to Powerstown having just missed out last year. Kilty Millie the beaten finalist also moves onto 8 points in the race for a place in the Grace Bruton Champion Bitch Stake.
