Setting the scene for Clonmel 2014

With all but one of the Greyhound and Petworld Oaks and Boylesports Derby contenders known and the Classics Club Champion Stakes and Grace Bruton Champion Bitch Stake line-ups almost complete, the countdown to the annual coursing festival in Clonmel can begin.

In three weeks time, we will have our victors. They will join the pantheon of great dogs that have claimed the classics over the last 89 years. Who will follow in the paw prints of Thomas The Tank and Smart Ali? Of Bossa Nova Babe and Hopes and Dreams?

Rarely has a dog’s name summed up so brilliantly just what it means to own a greyhound taking to the field. Every owner, every breeder, every trainer ‘hopes and dreams’ that one day they will have an interest in a dog capable of competing on the hallowed turf of Powerstown Park, Clonmel. Better still they ‘hope and dream’ of National Meeting glory.

This year around 152 dogs will get that chance.
