Careful Betty is the headline act of what is a very impressive looking All Age Bitch Stake in Glin this weekend. But can she be stopped?

Careful Betty is the probably a deserving favourite in the Glin All Age Bitch Stake however I wouldn’t be in any rush to get stuck into her at her current price. Having won her Trial Stake on her third outing last season, undoubtedly impressing along the way, she went to Clonmel with high expectations. Having been the fastest in the opening round and among the quickest in the second round she lost out to Skellig Blues at the last 16 stage. She was then beaten in the Champion Bitch Stake in Limerick by Needham Pine. As such this lady is talented but not unbeatable and she meets a very good field here.
In the bottom half here Garrys Secret has little to prove as far as quality is concerned. An Oaks quarter-finalist as a puppy she showed her class in the All Age ranks with wins in East Donegal and Templetuohy. A semi-finalist the Champion Bitch Stake in Limerick her clocks were on a par or better than most of last season’s pups. She’s fairly priced here at 4-1.
Of the others, the Trial Stake winning second season runners are definitely the most interesting. Fancy Rae Baker make her first outing since winning the 64 bitch Trial Stake in Edenderry last year. Sand Sea Model will have improved for her run in Kilflynn last weekend and Sullane Jess makes only her second appearance since winning the Trial Stake at the old field in Glin last season.
There’s a cracking buckle in store between Fire Height Una and Ballyverry Snowy in the opening round. As has been noted Snowy showed real gears in Clonmel without picking up her quarry on the two occasions she went up the field. Una meanwhile was 14-4 last season only losing in Clonmel to eventual winner Somelittlething.
Two other Trial Stake winners clashing in the first round are Onthewagonwheel and Abbeyglen Gra. The former won her Trial Stake early last season in Gorey before running well in the Kitty Butler only losing out to winner Turning Pace in the third round after a couple of decent clocks. Abbeyglen Gra won her Trial Stake in Ardpatrick and put up a decent first round showing in the Kitty Butler before losing out to a flying Bank Perspective in the second round. This could well prove a very interesting buckle.
Of the others Sunfire Magic holds the most appeal and having been busy last season it will be interesting to see if the rest over the summer has done her any good. She’s a litter sister of Derby semi-finalist Fingal Master but has a difficult opening round against Sand Sea Model.
