Echo Johnny, owned by Noel Sheehan, proved too strong for his opposition as he claimed the Connacht Cup today at Masonbrook Meadows, Loughrea. Johnny, a white and brindle son of Johnny Casanova and Dusty Track, was the 1-4 favourite but was given the flag in a tight buckle with Toms Wizard in the final.
There was All Age Bitch Stake success for Split Decision, a daughter of Oaks winner Fortuna. Winner of the Westport Trial Stake at Christmas, Split Decision had too much for Rocky Hill in the final. She could be one to watch as the season goes on.
Noreen McManus savoured success in the Derby Trial Stake as Call Up Pal, a son of Adios Alonso and prolific brood Call Up got the better of Centenarius in the final. The January whelp was a warm favourite over night and he made no mistake as he booked his place at Clonmel.
There were shocks galore in the Oaks Trial Stake as most of the overnight favourites were disposed of this morning, Aveia, a daughter of Kyle James and Cheryl, proved too strong for Isabelles Charm in the final. Owned by Martin Keane and Albert Long she improved throughout the competition to claim the victory.
