Front Runners

Glenlough Mick is the favourite in the top half of the draw but there are a couple with the capability to challenge him, most notably Winter Of Fun. Glenlough Mick ran up two Trial Stakes last season, at this meeting and at the Rathcormac meeting before getting the better of Crafty Who to claim the North Kilkenny Trial Stake just before Christmas. He reached the third round of  the TA Morris beating Who Needs Time and Gurteen Vince eventually losing out to Killeagh Jingles. He’s had one outing this season, Lochbo Charlie getting the better of him in  the second round in Glin.

While he’s heavily fancied to get over the first round test posed by Bandit Bart he could well meet Winter Of Fun in the second round. Beaten in the final of the Millstreet Trial Stake last season by Echo Johnny, Winter Of Fun has had a couple of outings this season, reaching the third round of the Cup in Ballyheigue.

In the top quarter the standout dog just might be Chinook Zebo who showed a bit of ability at times last season reaching the fourth round in Clonakilty most notably. He meets Loyal Lord who had an outing a couple of weekends ago and who has ability but has struggled to put it together consistently over four or five courses.

The class of the bottom half is Wilton Magic. The one time Irish Cup semi-finalist claimed the Cup at the Clonmel and Kilsheelan meeting last season and can’t be written off here if he’s at his best. He’d be expected to beat Seaside Chaser and he’d also be fancied in the second round against likely opponent Sarasota Silver.

In the bottom quarter Fallen Prey reached the final in Liscannor and will have improved for the run while Here Comes Mafi returns to defend the title he claimed 12 months ago. Pretty Rebel reached the semi-final here last season but was withdrawn in her three subsequent outings when still in the Trial Stake. She could well make an impact here.
