Needham makes short ‘Work’ of field in Newcastlewest

For a dog who didn’t appear in his puppy season Needham Work is making quite the impact in his first year in the All Age ranks as he followed up his North Kerry Cup win with the Munster Cup in Newcastlewest today. Brendan Matthews’ son of Bexhill Eoin and Gadget claimed his second cup of the season from Newinn Glory giving the inform Newry kennel their second all age success in a matter of days following Needham Marie’s success at Old Kilcullen. Needham Work must now enter the Champion Stakes and Irish Cup reckoning.

After a couple of near misses over the past couple of season’s Giveittobatty finally got her paws on some silverware today as she claimed the All Age Bitch Stake in Newcastlewest. The daughter of Bexhill Eoin and Giveittocaesar had reached the Milltown Malbay Bitch Stake final but went one step further today to get the better of Abbeyglen Gra. She is owned by Paddy Flanagan.

Portane All In was favourite for the Derby Trial Stake as soon as the draw was made and he duly delivered here making it the second winner in two weeks for dam Newinn All In. The white and fawn son of Mafi Magic, got the better of Aghaburren Mafi in the final, to continue the stunning run of form for trainer Michael O’Donavon and provide owners Joe Blair and Patrick Bowles with a Trial Stake winner.

There was success for Joe Collins and Morty Ahern as their bitch Delonso claimed her National Meeting ticket in the Oaks Trial Stake. A daughter of Adios Alonos and Delotti, she saw off Ballymac Alberta in the final, a second Trial Stake final defeat for Liam Dowling’s bitch. Delonso was making her fourth outing of the season, having previously reached the semi-final in Thurles.
