There was silverware today for Corriga Rebel at the Cappoquin meeting as he saw off Game Miller to take the Fran Mangan Memorial Cup. Owned by the Walsh family in County Cavan, Rebel was demoted from his position as Champion Stakes winner at the National Meeting but he showed that he hadn’t lost any of his pace as he took the silverware.
In the All Age Bitch Stake Floating Cove marked her first appearance this season seeing off Blanemore Pearl in the final of the All Age Bitch Stake to take the silverware. Cove, a Trial Stake winner in North Kilkenny last season, reached the second round of last years Oaks, and running in the Red collar here underlined her class to take the silverware.
Connections of Floating Cove were celebrating a double on the day as Kilfergus Belle, a daughter of Castle Pines and Quality And Dash, claimed the Oaks Trial Stake ticket at the meeting. Owned by Colin Wallace, Kilfergus Belle had previously run at Castleisland, Killimer Kilrush and Kilflynn where she reached the fourth round. She got the better of Isnt She Magic in the final here.
In the Reserve Derby Trial Stake, Spalpin Fanach, a son of Adios Alonso and Moat Elsa claimed the 7th reserve spot at the National Meeting as he got the better of Gillogue Ben in the final. Spalpin Fanach is owned by Tom Hannon and Thomas Joyce and had made appearances at Thurles and Kilsheelan.
