Fleetwood to celebrate during festive season?

The final meeting on Friday and Saturday takes place at Blarney as the County Cork Coursing Club hold their annual Cork Cup meeting. With 8 dogs and 8 bitches set to compete for the silverware there’s plenty to look forward to.

Front Runners

I thing it’s best to start at the bottom half given the presence of the standout lady Camarillo Blonde. This bitch was well fancied for the Oaks after winning the Newcastlewest Trial Stake a couple of years ago and subsequently reached the third round of the Oaks. Last year she showed her class winning in Clonmel and Kilsheelan in most impressive fashion. Interestingly there’s been some support for her this week, reduced from 5-1 into 3-1 so a decent performance here should be expected. Brickfield Sky, the All Age Bitch Stake winner in Charleville may be her main danger.

In the top half the standout buckle could well be between Fleetwood Nova and Lochbo Benny. Nova, an Irish Cup semi-finalist and a promoted Derby quarter-finalist hasn’t been spied since reached the semi-final in Glin earlier in the season. I would certainly fancy his chances against Lochbo Benny, a Cup winner at Charleville towards the end of October. He has disappointed a couple of times since but should certainly be respected.

Current favourite is the in-form Sheeraghs Lad, a runner up as Clonmel and Kilsheelan and a winner on his most recent outing in Rathdowney. I’d certainly expect him to make the semi-final where he could get a stern test of his credentials.

On the basis of all known form I’d certainly be leaning towards Fleetwood Nova.
