Tynwald Ash moved himself into the Champion Stakes reckoning as he was declared the winner of the Ulster Cup, with Make Peace withdrawn in the final. The Terry Corden owned and Michael O’Donavon trained dog had a slow start to the season but won the Cup in North Kilkenny before claiming the €2,000 prize here to gaurantee himself a place in Powerstown.
The All Age Bitch Stake saw the Brendan Matthews kennel in Newry take the honours as City Beauty got the decision from Hows She Goin, a buckle effectively for a place in the Grace Bruton All Age Bitch Stake. The daughter of Razor Ashmore and Latest Gamble had previously won the Bitch Stake in Knockgraffon and sealed her place in Clonmel with the win.
In the Derby Trial Stake, Annual Assembley, a son of Killimor Matey and Valentia Popstar saw off the challenge off Free Bet to claim the ticket to Powerstown Park. It was a case of third time lucky for the dog owned by Eoin and Donal Wilson having previously reached the third round in Wexford and the final in Enniscorthy.
The Oaks Trial Stake was won by Derramore Star, a daughter of Wallace Green and Miss Vanity. She saw off the Dream About You in the final. Derramore Star is owned by Harvey Lavelle and had three previous first round defeats before things clicked into place in Tubbercurry.
