Sunday to savour at Patrickswell

Sunday marks the final day of the 2014-15 coursing season and we’re primed for a ‘super’ Sunday of action at Patrickswell. There are some mouth-watering clashes to look forward to across all the stakes. I thought I’d take a quick look at the four Irish Cup quarter final clashes.

Kyle Bruce is favoured to come out of the top buckle with Woodpark Alonso, but the Gerry Holian trained dog might just have a sneak in this buckle. Kyle, was fortunate to come out on top against kennel mate Kyle Fionn, winning a toss after running offline and unsighted. He put in a better performance on his second run to move past Whatdoyoufancy. Woodpark was an impressive victor against Fingal Master and moved better again to see off Black And White. He’s the outsider but not without a chance.

Needham Work looked beat in his third round buckle with Blazing Music but used all the field to finally get the better of Music. His second round effort against Needham Simple had been fairly impressive. Kyle Roger really impressed me today (Saturday) proving an impressive winner against Tynwald Ash and Broadwell James. Corn na Feile winner Serene Angel has been consistent throughout but he meets the impressive Maker Of Rules. One of the freshest dogs standing in the competition he’s one of three Gerry Holian trained dogs remaining in the bottom half and one of four in the stake.

The bottom buckle sees a repeat of the Nenagh Dog Trial Stake final with the two Gerry Holian trained charges Blades of Hope and Crushers Oak set to meet. Crushers has been visually impressive in all his buckles and posted the fastest time of the two days to date 11.82 in his second round. (I had 11.82, Berkie has 11.92). Blades third round run, an 11.86 was very impressive and should the two dogs meet at their best it’ll be a buckle to savour. The one concern would be that Blades ran to the Derby semi-final and with 5 runs up Powerstown behind him might that catch up with him in the heavy going in the morning?
