Serene Angel proves himself too strong in Horgan Cup

Serene Angel made a perfect start to the new season as he claimed the Horgan All Age Cup in Abbeydorney this afternoon denying Bower King his second victory of the season. It was a glorious day for Angel’s trainer Michael O’Donovan, as he claimed three of the four Cups for his kennel. Serene Angel had one length to spare over Bower King in the final, to get his campaign off to a fast start.

O’Donovan also has an Oaks contender as Melting Pot, a daughter of Kingsmill Dynamo and Intense Focus ran out a very impressive winner of the Trial Stake. Owned by Sir Mark Prescott, Melting Pot got the better of Jessies Orders in the final of the stake.

The O’Donovan hat-trick was completed by Stonepark Rebel, a son of Murtys Blaze and Uptown Rebel as he saw of Silent Secret to claim the win. The May pup, owned by Michael O’Dwyer is sure to improve before Clonmel. He had come into Sunday as a 6-4 favourite.

In the All Age Bitch Stake, Uptown Cailin, a litter sister of Serene Angel justified her favouritism to claim a convincing win from Call Her Dresden. Owned by the First Time Syndicate, Uptown Cailin, didn’t pick up a Trial Stake last season but she’ll be one to keep an eye on for the rest of this season.
