Woodpark Alonso shows his class to claim Connacht Cup

Woodpark Alonso, justified his pre-coursing favouritism to claim the Connacht Cup today at Loughrea. The son of Adios Alonso and Woodpark Rebel was an Irish Cup quarter-finalist last season and he showed his pedigree to get the better of Crafty Resino this afternoon. Owned by John Quinn, he will be hoping that Alonso can pick up enough points to claim his place in the Champion Stakes.

In the All Age Bitch Stake Ougham Ellen emerged an impressive winner overcoming a decent field in the process. The Trial Stake winner at the Westport meeting, Ellen reached the last 16 of the Oaks and connections will be hoping that she can make a return after this impressive return. The daughter of Kingsmill Dynamo and Ougham Miss got the better of Tanyard Clare in the final.

In the Oaks Trial Stake, Oakview Banba, a daughter of Johnny Casanova and Oh Banba was a very impressive winner. An overnight fancy, Banba owned by Paddy and Stephen McIntyre, got the better of Fivestarger in the final. She could be one to keep an eye on at Powerstown a field her mother relished.

In the Derby Trial Stake Furey Mills, a son of Adios Alonso and Stop That Ger, claimed the ticket as he got the better of Marginal Gains. Owned by TJ Scully and Phil McCarthy, this was Furey Mills first outing of the year. His litter sister Fivestarger was beaten in the final of the Oaks Trial Stake.
