Team Ike claims Rakes Of Mallow Cup

There were something of an upset at this afternoon’s Mallow meeting as Team Ike claimed the Rakes of Mallow Cup from Carrowkeal Jonjo. Ike, a son of Skellig Wish and Skellig Kelly, had claimed the Working Members Stake at Bandon and Careys Cross last season and Joe McCarthy’s brindle saw of the challenge, first of Fleetwood James and then Carrowkeal Jonjo to take the silverware. It’s a second cup win of the season for sire Skellig Wish following on from At All Times win in Kilflynn.

Perhaps the biggest shock of the day however was the victory of overnight outsider Clon Carlos. The son of Kingsmill Dynamo and Bucks Honey had been as big as 10-1 overnight but he moved through the stake accounting for odds on shot Crafty Korozo. Owned by Tom Tanner, Clon Carlos he had previously had outings in Fermoy and Kilflynn but failed to raise a flag.

The final of the Reserve Oaks Trial Stake pitted the Cryptic Sunset claimed the silverware for the Lifestyle Syndicate. The daughter of Jingles and Sunny Skies had two previous outings, in Ballyheigue and Kilflynn. She got the better of Aghadown Josie in the final.
