Kyle Bruce takes the bragging rights from the Island Cup

Kyle Bruce all but guaranteed his place in the Champion Stakes today when he claimed the Island Cup in Castleisland. The Marie Field owned hound met his litter brother Blades of Hope in the final and got the nod from the judge in what was a close call. Bruce had earlier run up the Stephen Fuller Memorial Cup in Kilflynn on the opening weekend of the season.

Another to give themselves a great chance of reaching the Champion Stakes was Bated Breath, the daughter of Adios Alonso and Exact Science, claiming the honours from Giveittome. Bated Breath won the stake for the Dead Poets Society Syndicate having earlier won the Bitch Stake in Glin.

Sir Mark Prescott was celebrating for the second time in a week as Parlour Game won the Derby Trial Stake from Exceed And Excel. Owned jointedly with Shane O’Gorman, the son of Kingsmill Dynamo and Intense Focus was making his first appearance of the season for Michael O’Donovan.

Laughing Lilo was a 2-1 bet overnight but the daughter of Mafi Magic and Laughing Lady overcame Kilcastle Five in the final of the Oaks Trial Stake. Owned by Master Aodhan Maher, this was Lilo’s first outing of the season.
