James’ ‘Time’ has come at Listowel

Time James saw off the brave challenge of Wizard Matthew to win the John Prendiville Cup today in Listowel. The Glanworth Trial Stake winner had been well fancied coming into the stake having shown well at the Desmond Cup before losing to eventual winner Mulboy King. Denis Curtin’s son of Kyle James and Be On Time got the better of Wizard Matthew in the final to claim the 6 champion stake points on offer.

The All Age Bitch Stake saw last year’s hot Oaks fancy Tobar Na Molt get the better of Dublinfourdasher in the final. Tobar had been well fancied overnight and the withdrawal of Sequin before courisng will have hardened some of the backing behind her. The daughter of Mafi Magic and Newinn All In will be one to keep a close eye on as the season progresses.

The 64 dog Derby Trial Stake saw a clash between pups from two of this seasons more exciting litters. True North, a son of Adios Alonso and Jamaica Jane took the honours for owner Con Fitzgerald and the place in the Derby. True North is a litter brother of Laurdella Dani, impressive Oaks Trial Stake winner in New Ross, and a half bother of Tynwald Ash, Oaks runner-up to Somelittlething in 2014. He beat Crafty Boogaloo, who becomes the fourth litter brother to run up a Trial Stake in the last month, with brother Crafty Toro getting a win in Freshford.

In the Oaks Trial Stake Glenlough Dixie took the honours for John Murphy. The daughter of Newinn Wonder and Dixie Darlin had been a 4-1 shot overnight, but she paid no heed to the odds compilers to book her place in Powerstown. She had previously seen action in Fermoy and Miltown Malbay and that experience stood to her. She beat Pumpkin Judicial in the final, a lady who had already won the Reserve Trial Stake in Ballyheigue.
