Blueview Charlie claims more silverware, this time in Enniscorthy

Blueview Charlie, the Champion Stakes winner in 2015, looks like he could well be heading back there in 2016 as he claimed the Slaney Cup at Enniscorthy on Sunday afternoon. This was Charlie’s sixth piece of silverware in just over 13 months. Owned and trained by Maxi Collins, Charlie has already won the Cup in Trim and he got the better of New Ross winner Mulboy Branan in the final.

In the All Age Bitch Stake, Skellig Mint, finally fulfilled her potential when she claimed the honours from Sunfire City. Having looked like winning a Trial Stake on a couple of occasions last season, Mint was not to be denied today. She is owned by Rose O’Driscoll and trained by Donagh McLean.

In the Derby Trial Stake there were very positive reports about the performance of Ashwood Casanova, a son of Johnny Casanova and Ashwood Dee. Casanova, a March pup is owned by John Doyle and Eoin Mullins. He saw off the challenge of Newyork Tom in today’s final, having reached the 3rd round of his only previous outing in New Ross where he was beaten by winner Jet Stream.

There was a Trial Stake winner of the Matthews team in Enniscorthy as City Cruise saw off Droopys Swallow in the Oaks Trial Stake final. The daughter of Razor Ashmore and Latest Gamble is owned by Brendan Matthews and had reached the second round on two previous outings in Carlow and Castleisland.
