Geordie does the business to take his second Cup of season

Geordie Casanova, claimed his second Cup of the season in Lifford this afternoon seeing off City Jet to claim the Gold Cup at the East Donegal meeting. Geordie, a son of Johnny Casanova and Loyal Leader, and owned by Mark Mulholland gained a small measure of revenge beating Rory For Glory this morning. The pair had last met in the final of the Derby Trial Stake at the same venue last season. Geordie, followed up his victory in Crohane and with 8 Champion Stakes points to his name he’ll be expected to make it to Powerstown Park

In the Derby Trial Stake, the well fancied Im From Rio took the honours getting the better of Ashmore Noah. From the bit and pieces I’ve been told both the winner and runner-up in this Trial Stake looked above average, with the winner, owned and trained by Cathal Magee, likely to enter the Derby betting in a prominent position. His litter brother, Blueview Rio, is the current Derby favourite.

The Oaks Trial Stake saw Lagan Maria, owned by Bobby White take the honours from Crafty Tassimo. Lagan Maria, a daughter of Jingles and Swing Rose was making her first outing of the season and had entered the final as the underdog in the stake. She put that notion to bed early in the course and stretched out to win.
