Wizard Matthew beat both the 2015 Derby winner and runner-up to claim the Knockgraffon Cup on Sunday and move himself onto 8 Champion Stake points. Having been beaten previously in three finals, including the Cup in Listowel this season, Matthew came good on Sunday afternoon to give himself a great chance of making Clonmel in February. He got the better of Portane All In in a just up decision, and after some bumping on the run-up beat Feel My Pulse in the final for the Townview Kennel of Brendan Matthews.
The All Age Bitch Stake saw Happy Away take the top prize for the H and I Syndicate. Having run up Trial Stakes in Rathdowney and Templetuohy last season, the daughter of Adios Alonso and Tullamoy Queen got an overdue victory as she beat Two Steps Closer in the final. Two Steps Closer, having already won a Cup moves two points closer to Clonmel.
