Carrowkeal Gavin shows his class to claim Callanan Cup

Derby quarter-finalist Carrowkeal Gavin got off the mark for the season with victory this afternoon in the Callanan Cup at the Bandon and Careys Cross meeting. The son of Kyle James and Cumbawn Ellen denied Cloudy Dawn in his third decider of the season. Owned by Kathleen Murphy, Carrowkeal saw off Team Ike this morning before taking the honours in the deciding buckle. While Carrowkeal gets off the mark for the season, Cloudy Dawn moves onto 8 Champion Stakes points.

Coolavanny Bingo, a so of Razor Ashmore and Newinn All In, is certainly bred for Clonmel and he’ll be making the trip to Powerstown Park this year after he saw of Wazowski to claim the Derby Trial Stake in Bandon. Noel Brown’s late June pup was making his first outing of the season and he could well improve ahead of the classic.

The Reserve Oaks Trial Stake saw Fame Queen take the honours from Avas Magic. The Con Guiney owned and trained daughter of Thomas The Tank and Fives Treasure had shown ability in her first round run in Limerick City having lost out in the first round in two previous showings. She could well be seen again in a Trial Stake before the end of the season.
