No game for Curly as Parlour takes Corn na Feile

Michael O’Donovan claimed the Corn na Feile Puppy for the second straight year as Parlour Game was declared the winner for owners Shane O’Gorman and Sir Mark Prescott. The Castleisland Trial Stake winner had been due to meet litter sister Melting Pot, also trained by O’Donovan in the final. Having won a strong Trial Stake that included Derby fancy Black Barracuda, Mooncoin Puppy Stake winner Somelittlestar and Wallace Banner winner at Tralee over the weekend.

O’Donovan will also have been delighted with the performance of his kennel star Timber House who got the better of All The Music to win the Corn na Feile All Age. With 8 points and €4,000 he should be almost assured of a place in Clonmel. The son of Thomas The Tank and Lady Twinkletoes had a bit to find on the clock on the runner up going into the final but duly did. He’ll now be hotly fancied for the Champion Stakes.

The overnight fancy Octane Wonder proved too hot to handle in the final of the Derby Trial Stake as he saw off Kyle Mozart to book his place in Powerstown. The son of Newinn Wonder and Dynalite had been puchased after impressing in a duffer in Castleisland and came unstuck at the semi-final stage at Rathkeale. He made no mistake here however for Timothy Nolan and Maurice O’Connor.

The Oaks Trial Stake saw another winner for the Johnny Casanova x Oh Banba litter as Banba Be Luck won. A beaten finalist in Ballyduff she got the better of her nearest challenge on the clock Calma Chica this morning before going onto collect her ticket in style. She saw off Dale Khaleesi, a lady who had previously reached a semi-final in Dungannon.

Tobar Na Molt strikes a blow for the ladies in Kingdom Cup

Tobar Na Molt struck a blow for the fairer sex in Ballybeggan Park this afternoon as she won the Kingdom Cup from Kyle George. The daughter of Mafi Magic and Newinn All In had already won two Cups this season but struck one of the season’s biggest as she got the better of Kyle George in the final to deny the Fields a second consecutive success. She’s now wracked up 14 Champion Stake points and €7,700 prize money on the season.

The Derby Trial Stake saw the Brendan Matthews owned Wallace Banner claim the ticket to Clonmel. Having been fancied overnight, the son of Derby winner Danaghers Best and Wallace Court got the better of the ante-post fancy La Marseillaise. Banner was making his third appearance of the season, a semi-final defeat in Carlow his previous best.

The Oaks Trial Stake saw Downton Minnie, a daughter of Adios Alonso and Chubbys Excel, take the honours. Making her fifth outing of the season Minnie saw off the challenge of Candle Light in the final of the Trial Stake. Minnie had made the third round in Kilflynn and the third round in Abbeydorney.

Stephens Owen claimed a well deserved All Age Cup in Wexford this afternoon as he saw off the trackbred Trapper Barry in the final of the Loch Gorman Cup. Onwed by the O’Sullivan, Grogan, McNamara, Meehan Syndicate had been luckless so far this season but he finally registered his first victory today.

The Bitch Stake saw Two Steps Closer declared the winner, and all but book her place in the Champion Bitch Stake. The daughter of Musical Time and Whimsical Lady followed up her Thurles victory with victory here moving onto 10 points for the season. Owned by Basil Holian and Bernie Diskin-Holian, Two Steps Closer claimed the silverware as Sunfire City was withdrawn from the final.

Ike takes the Borrisoleigh silverware

Team Ike claimed his second piece of silverware of the season as he was declared winner of the Hitchins Post Cup in Borrisoleigh after Bower King was withdrawn in the final. Owned by Joe McCarthy, Team Ike, a son of Skellig Wish and Skellig Kelly had previously won the Cup in Mallow. He will probably need another two points to squeeze into the Champion Stakes with Clonakilty a possibility. Bower King also made the jump to 8 points but his prizemoney will keep him out of of the top 16.

Isnt She Magic won her second cup of the season as she got the better of Up The Saints in the final of the All Age Bitch Stake. The daughter of Mafi Magic and Class Attraction had previously won in Ardpatrick for owners Robert Green and Elaine Guiney. She’s currently 9th in the Grace Bruton Champion Stakes table but that might be enough to get her in if anything drops out over the coming weeks.

The Derby Trial Stake ticket went to Brendan Everard’s charge Get Stuck In,  a son of Adios Alonso and Aslee Annie. Get Stuck In had previously reached the third round in Nenagh. Here he beat off the challenge of Lithuanian King who had won a duffer in Newcastlewest on his last appearance and reached the third round in Rathcormac.

The Oaks Trial Stake went to Blastoff Betty as she saw off the challenge from Sandyman Smut. Tara Buckley’s bitch, a daughter of Kingsmill Dynamo and Mayor Berine, will now take her place in the Oaks. She had previously had outings in Kilflynn, Listowel and Johnstown and Urlingford.
