Rocks of Bawn claims Seamus Hughes Memorial in Sevenhouses

Rocks of Bawn showed something of a renaissance in Sevenhouses as he claimed the Seamus Hughes Memorial Cup narrowly from Foot Solution. With the runner up needing a win to make the Champion Stakes he was denied by the son of Mafi Magic and Moat Elsa.

Elsewhere Pumpkin Kia proved a popular winner for Marie Thompson as she convincingly saw of the challenge of Moat Hannah. Kia, a daughter of Judicial Affair and Pumpkin Aviva, hadn’t shown much on three previous outings but came into her own on the longer stretch in Sevenhouses to post an impressive victory.

In the Reserve Derby Trial Stake there was joy for retiring judge Tom Lawler, as Mungos Ranger, a son of Kyle Ranger and Mungos Diamond got the better of Almighty Man in the final. Owned by Maurice and June Lawler, Ranger fills the final reserve spot at the National Meeting.
