Half The Odds claims Desmond Cup

Half The Odds claimed the Desmond Cup and the 9 Champion Stake points on offer today as Crafty Gonzalo was withdrawn in the final. Half The Odds, a son of Thomas The Tank and Call Posie, best effort last season came as he reached the semi-final at Freshford. Liam McLaughlin’s dog will be one worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses.

The All Age Bitch Stake saw Satriani spring something of a surprise over Killacolla Kiwi this morning before going on to claim the honours. The daughter of Razor Ashmore and Quality and Dash had won the Cork Trial Stake last season and reached the semi-final of the Patsy Byrne Bitch Stake at the Irish Cup meeting. She is owned by the Carigdhoun Syndicate.

Glin regularly throws up useful Trial Stake winners and this year may be no different with Do It Barney and Pumpkin Abbie looking useful. Derby Trial Stake winner Do It Barney, is a son of Adios Alonso and Kincora Chubby. Ray White’s dog got the better of Vals Image in the final of the stake.

The Oaks Trial Stake winner Pumpkin Abbie had been the overnight favourite and she justified that favouritism to get the better of Skellig Shine in the final. The January bitch is owned by Marie Thompson and is a daughter of Razor Ashmore and Pumpkin Aviva.
