I spotted a comment on the ICC website yesterday that if the two Skelligs (Jewel and Sky) were removed then the Fantasy Coursing points this year would be at a record low. This is particularly true of the dog Trial Stake winners from last season. I should point out that over the past 5 or 6 seasons, basically from what I’ve taken records of and studied closely, Trial Stake winners and non-Trial Stake winners generally break even as second season dogs.
This season, second season Trial Stake winners have won just 5 of the 25 All Age Cups for dogs on offer. They are Jet Stream in Regional, Redzer Green in Abbeydorney, Amazing King in Crohane, Ashwood Casanova in Cashel and Colossal Ranger in Thurles. That doesn’t mean others haven’t performed well. Drive On Smokey, True North and Kingsmill Jasper are just 3 of last seasons big names who have performed well, while Crafty Gonzalo was motoring well only to meet a career ending injury in Glin.
With True North, Alcar and Drive On Smokey all out this weekend the Trial Stake winners might yet increase their tally this weekend.
