Longway Home claimed victory this afternoon in Cavan in the final of the All Age Cup as Harry Reilly’s son of Kingsmill Dynamo and Knockrour Breeze saw of Maker of Rules in the deciding buckle. He may have come in under the radar but the form was in the book from last year, losing to winner Im From Rio in the third round in East Donegal before losing in the final in Roscommon at Christmas.
The dog Trial Stake went the way of Ham and Inch as he got the better of long odds fancy Annabels Magic to take the Derby Trial Stake. Owned by Conor Caffrey, the son of Kyle Leigh and Liams Mac, gives a shot to the form of current Derby second favourite Reikers Island who beat Ham and Inch on his only previous start at Westmeath. That Trial Stake is working out fairly well as it happens with Wiggs Well, Rosskeen Colonel and Boynepark Josh (reserve TS) all winning on their next starts after running there.
The Oaks Trial Stake went to Deirdre Myles’ Try Colour, a daughter of Thomas The Tank and Adios Belle. The March whelp got the better of Do It Chubby in the final. Both ladies were making their first starts of the season.
