Caislean comes through to upset the boys in Borris-in-Ossory

Caislean Lyrics, owned by Cieran Connolly claimed the Laois Cup today in Borris-in-Ossory after she got the better of Chillax Charlie. A son of Kyle Basil and Lyrics, he was a winner on the track in Galway last Friday night. Her best effort in the field was in Loughrea last season where he reached the semi-final.

The Derby Trial Stake went to Stonepark Mick the pre-coursing favourite. He had been the even money favourite this morning and met his closest challenger Chooseyourweapon in the third round this morning. He got the better of him and went on to get the better of Kyle Davy for owner Michael O’Dwyer. He is a son of Kyle James and Stonepark Dilemma.

The Oaks Trial Stake went to Tipperary for the Noel Stapleton and John O’Connell owned Following Lights. The Declan Byrne trained lady had been a 5/2 chance overnight and she ran well today to see off Tullamoy Nell in the final. This was her fourth outing of the season having reached semi-finals in Cashel (one that’s working out well) and Rathkeale.
