Skellig Shane claimed the Kingdom Cup today to give himself a fantastic opportunity at claiming a place in the Champion Stake. The son of Mafi Magic and Skellig Beag has been one of the more consistent All Age performers this season and shone from start to finish at Ballybeggan Park in Tralee. Having been dominant on the clock through the opening three rounds he saw himself declared winner with first Balleen Voyager and then Isherselfdown withdrawn.
The Oaks Trial Stake went the way of Amys Jackpot, a lady who was knocking on the door during her two outings this season before finally finding it answered in Tralee. Amy and Laura Costellos, daughter of Mafi Magic and Kiss And Tell had reached the final at Abbeydorney and the fourth round at Lixnaw. She saw of Oilean Cailin in the final, a lady who lost out in the Rathcormac Reserve Trial Stake final.
Also a runner up in Abbeydorney was Smearla Dresden, but he made no mistake here getting the better of Cutting Edge. The son of Thomas The Tank and Call Her Dresden, owned by Caoimhe Nolan and Cian Canty was having his fourth outing of the season. He’s currently a 20-1 shot with Brownes for the Derby.
