The North Cork Cup today fell the way of Kingsmill Jasper who was bouncing back to form after a number of underpar efforts. Having reached the third round of the Derby last season, Jasper, owned by the Roche, Fitzpatrick and Rooney Syndicate had run up the cup in Crohane earlier in the season. He got the better of Drive On Smokey who will have to wait and see if the 11.5 points he has accumulated will be enough to get him into the Champion Stakes.
Awfully Fast, a son of Tullamore and Central Heroine, lived up to his name as he claimed the Derby Trial Stake getting the better of Oilean Kyle, who was running up his third Trial Stake of the season. A second member of his litter to qualify for the Derby this week, (Central Avenger in East Donegal), the Noreen and Kieran McManus owned dog was making his fifth outing of the season.
The Oaks Trial Stake saw the Mark and Charles Ryall owned Big One claim the ticket for Clonmel from Kilkilette. Having already secured the Reserve ticket from Castleisland, he daughter of Mafi Magic and Big Maggie reached the semi-final in Newcastlewest a few weeks ago.
