Wallace Banner showed the class that saw him reach the quarter-final of the Derby when he got the better of Alcar to claim the Ulster Cup at the Ballymena meeting. The Brendan Matthews charge has secured himself a place in the Irish Cup with his victory.
Newinn Rose continued the form that saw her win in Mooncoin and make a late season charge at the Champion Bitch Stake with victory over fellow contender Laurdella Dani. The Oaks quarter-finalist is a daughter of Razor Ashmore and Newinn All In and is owned by the No Comment Syndicate.
The Martin’s trained a double of Trial Stake winners at the meeting with Another Country claiming the Derby Trial Stake for John Martin. A son of Cross Country and Miss Candy Floss he was declared the winner after the withdrawal of Needham Eoin. He had shown some ability this season reaching the semi-final in Westmeath and again at Wexford. This was his sixth appearance of the year.
The Oaks Trial Stake went to his litter sister Derramore Chick who got the better of Malbay Lyric in the final. Owned by Conor McIntyre, this lady was making her fifth outing of the year including semi-final appearances in Balbriggan and Wexford. Most recently she lost out to Gadget Queen in the Wexford semi-final.
