Domain proves himself him King in Cappoquin

Domain King followed up his impressive victory in the John Prendiville Cup in Listowel as he claimed the Fran Mangan Cup in Cappoquin this afternoon. The son of Kyle Basil and Lyrics, a litter brother of Kyle Mozart, claimed the honours for the Carden Syndicate when Navins Casanova was withdrawn from the final.

The All Age Bitch Stake saw Ballymac Blue complete a double on the day for Liam Dowling, as she got the better of Seaside Sophie in the final. Ballymac, a daughter of Blueview Sam and Ashtown Amy, only came into the stake as the second reserve. Beaten in the final of the Kilflynn Oaks Trial Stake last season, Ballymac had reached a couple of semi-finals since but finally got over the line today.

The Oaks Trial Stake ticket went to Count Belle, owned by Den Morrin and Jon Knowles. The daughter of Thomas The Tank and Adios Alonso had steadily progressed through the season reaching a third round and semi-final at the Galway and Oranmore meeting and the Killimer Kilrush meetings respectively. The vanquished final runner Iberostar was losing out in her second final in two weeks. She is trained by Paudie Lyons.

Lyons completed a double on the day when he claimed the Reserve Derby Trial Stake with Wiseguy Pat getting the better of Doire Na Tobraid. Owned by Ava Lyons, Wiseguy Pat had reached semi-finals at Galway and Oranmore and Abbeydorney meetings. He is a son of Kyle Leigh and Stick Back.

Amazing Oscar claims the Fran Mangan All Age Cup

Amazing Oscar got the better of Fleetwood James to win the Fran Mangan All Age Cup in Cappoquin today. Owned by James Carroll and Helen Murphy, the son of Chelsea Speed and Chubbys Melody, had won a duffer last season but ran into Needham Work on his debut this year. After a couple of runs to get up to speed he took the honours today to give him the chance to get a run at the Irish Cup.

Alva Lil scored an emotional victory today in Cappoquin for the Lillis family from Co. Clare. The Dungarvan Oaks Trial Stake winner last season, she would reach the quarter final of the Oaks in Powerstown. A family tragedy over the summer makes this win all the more poignant, for the lady owned by Deirdre Lillis. Lil, is a daughter of Kyle James and Coffee In Currow.

The Oaks Trial Stake saw Kilty Sadie take what was a deserved victory after two semi-final appearances already this season. The daughter of  March Is On and Lochbo Zola got the better of Isherselfdown in the final. Owned by John and Noel Hallissey, Kilty’s consistency could make her an awkward prospect in Powerstown.

The Reserve Derby Trial Stake saw Yippee Razor claim the fourth spot in the Reserve pecking order for owner John Martin. A son of Razor Ashmore and Miss Candy Floss, Razor got the better of Mad Jingles in the final. Yippee Razor will be hoping to follow in the paw prints of half-brother Yippee Kiyay who won a reserve Trial Stake before winning a full trial stake to qualify for Clonmel.

Corriga Rebel takes Fran Mangan Memorial Cup at Cappoquin

There was silverware today for Corriga Rebel at the Cappoquin meeting as he saw off Game Miller to take the Fran Mangan Memorial Cup. Owned by the Walsh family in County Cavan, Rebel was demoted from his position as Champion Stakes winner at the National Meeting but he showed that he hadn’t lost any of his pace as he took the silverware.

In the All Age Bitch Stake Floating Cove marked her first appearance this season seeing off Blanemore Pearl in the final of the All Age Bitch Stake to take the silverware. Cove, a Trial Stake winner in North Kilkenny last season, reached the second round of last years Oaks, and running in the Red collar here underlined her class to take the silverware.

Connections of Floating Cove were celebrating a double on the day as Kilfergus Belle, a daughter of Castle Pines and Quality And Dash, claimed the Oaks Trial Stake ticket at the meeting. Owned by Colin Wallace, Kilfergus Belle had previously run at Castleisland, Killimer Kilrush and Kilflynn where she reached the fourth round. She got the better of Isnt She Magic in the final here.

In the Reserve Derby Trial Stake, Spalpin Fanach, a son of Adios Alonso and Moat Elsa claimed the 7th reserve spot at the National Meeting as he got the better of Gillogue Ben in the final. Spalpin Fanach is owned by Tom Hannon  and Thomas Joyce and had made appearances at Thurles and Kilsheelan.
